Portal Community Toolkit 5.0 contains modules that make it easy to setup a community of portals where users can automatically create their own sub-portals with Portal Sign-Up or visit other sub-portals in your site using the Portal Directory module. With Portal Sign-Up 5.0, it's even easier to allow visitors to create new sites using templates you have defined while also removing them from Administration rights. Now you can quickly build your own MySpace.com.

With Portal Community Toolkit, you have the tools to build a “hands-off“ community.  Now you just need to start making money from advertising!

SOURCE CODE INCLUDED FOR ALL MODULES

Portal Community Toolkit Includes the following DNN Modules...

  • My Links v1.0: MyLinks takes DotNetNuke farther then just a CMS system by giving you dynamic content based on the user. With MyLinks, your users can create their own list of links to be displayed when they visit your site. The only links they see are the ones they added.

  • Portal Sign-Up 5.0: Allows anonymous users to create new sub-portals easily.  Includes PayPal integration for those who charge for portal hosting.

  • Portal Stats v1.0.2:  Gives your portal administrators quick stats on allocated server space, remaining space, used space and more.

  • Portal Stats Admin v1.0.5: Gives the Host quick stats of ALL portal server space allocated, consumed, remaining, total users and more.

  • LinkNex v3.5.7: Gives your portal administrators the ability to generate link lists with hit stats

Additional modules to be provided soon.  Including new versions of Portal Directory, Skin Viewer and more.

Additional modules added to the toolkit:

  • Peeping DNN v1.0: Peeping DNN gives you a real-time (AJAX) monitor of active visitors of your web site.  Providing drill-down into the details of each visitor showing where they came from, what pages they have visited and when.

  • Skin Viewer 2.0: The new Skin Viewer 2.0 module by OnyakTech.com is a great tool for Skin Developers to show off their work and for Portal Hosting Providers.  This new release displays skin and container thumbnails while also allowing them to preview and apply the skin to the site.  For Skin Developers, you can disable the option to apply the skin or container giving your visitors a great tool to use to view your work.

Can Portal Community Toolkit 5.0 be helpful in create a community within a portal?
Lets take my case as example. I run a site which presents:
    • facts about whiplash injuries
    • medical problems surrounding whiplash injuries
    • insurance facts and problems
    • law matters concerning injured over all and sever ill persons
    • other problem areas for injured and sever ill persons
    • help-forum where injured and sever ill persons can share their experiences and knowledge and help each other in all areas
I need a function to let registered visitors to easily create their own place/space in the site I run, where they can have their own diary, private discussion with invited friends and so on.

Is this possible with Portal Community Toolkit 5.0?

    Tomas,

It seems to me that "Portal Community Toolkit 5.0" is more for Web Hosting Providers where visitors would be setting up entire websites not just their own page.  If you want a website where people can create a single page of their own and also provide other "community" type functionality check out the modules at Smart-Thinker (www.smart-thinker.com) and also Ventrian Systems (www.ventrian.com).  Both sites offer their modules on a subscription basis -- you pay for a subscription and you get all the modules they have to offer.  I am not affiliated with either company other than being a very satisfied customer of both.

    I hope this helps.

    Chuck

Yes, you can allow registered visitors easily create their own space with the Portal Sign-Up module that is part of Portal Community.  To limit users, simply create a template and then lock down Portal Sign-Up to only allow that template when creating the place/space.

When you create the template, use roles to secure the admin rights you want your users to have.  Then specify that role in Portal Sign-up.  When the site is created, the user will be removed from administrative access and added to the role you specify.

This gives you unlimited possibilities with security and allows you to have hundreds of thousands of private areas setup by your visitors without making  a mess of your primary portal
