Hello all,

I have a question about roles.  Is it possible to combine roles for greater flexibility in configuring user access rights?  For example is there a way to setup up access to a module only for users who are both in Role A and Role B?
From what I can see DNN doesn't appear able to do AND's when it comes to roles but is there a way around this?

Let's say I want an article on plumbing to display only for users who are in the subscribers and plumbers roles together.  Presently the article will display for users in the subscribers role even if they are not in the plumbers role.  How do I enforce both?

Yes you can - go to Admin / Security Roles

Setup a User Group - give it a name.. Then when you want to setup a Role - you select from the dropdown box - that new group and then assign that role to that group.

It is perfectly designed for this purpose.

Are you sure about that? As far as I can tell role groups are only used for filtering. How do you limit access to a whole group (in other words the user should belong to ALL of the group's assigned roles in order to gain access to a page or module)?

Maybe I'm missing something, but I haven't found how to achieve this.

Yes I think that Opher is correct.  I ran across this statement in the 'Enhancing Roles' documentation on page 1:

Role Groups – In some situations, for instance on www.dotnetnuke.com, there is a
huge number of Roles, and grouping them together would provide a better
administration experience. This feature is purely a convenience feature for role
administration – it is the role itself that a user is assigned to or is given
permission.

Is there any way around this limitation to implement this another way?

I have a situation which is very much like this one and the only way I was able to make it work (granted it is not the perfect answer) was, I made the page viewable to Role A only and the module on the page viewable to Role B only. if there is nothing else on the page then the ugly shows up and Role A can only see an empty page
