Hi,

I've tried both the upgrade and install packages to upgrade my dnn 4.3.5 site to 4.3.7   Each time, the process shows duplicate folders in my file manager.  For example, I have a folder called web_grfx.  The file manager will show 2 folders of the same name.  If I delete 1, it deletes both.  I have access to the server the website is on and the windows file explorer shows only 1 folder, while the DNN File manager shows 2 folders.

Has anyone else come across this and if so, how did you fix it?  So far I'm finding 4.3.6 is more stable and lot less issues than 4.3.7

I upgrade my DNN installation as follows:

1.I use IPSWITCH WS_FTP, (FTP Client) simply because it will expand the folders and copy and overwrite the files with the same name. That is good cuz u might have files or sub-folders (not part or the standard installation) u want to leave untouched.

2. I use the install version and copy all as above, with the exception of the web.config file.

3. It is a good practice to make a FTP backup of all ur files and folders prior to any upgrade.

After u complete the above use the following http://www.urdomain.com/Install/Install.aspx?mode=Install

You will see the process of the upgrade.

You may have to reinstall any of the modules especially third party

Hi,

I too use your same method, but I don't use FTP because i have direct access to the folder via a network share.  I however, do copy the web.config, and may make a backup of the orginal config.  I then copy the customizations i made in the orginal to the new one from the install package.  I don't have to update the core modules, because the install package takes care of that for me.  I do find that if some 3rd party module does not work, I do have to buy the upgraded version to get those to work.

I've done this many times for many sites and release versions and all of them have gone with out a hitch.  Release 4.3.7 is the first time I've seen this kind of error with the file manager.  So until I see 4.3.8 or a fix for this on the forums I'm going to stick with version 4.3.6.

Now if you build a site from scratch using install 4.3.7 then there doesn't seem to be in issue.  It only seems to happen when you try to use the upgrade or install packages.

I have been testing two installations one use 4.3.6 and 4.3.7 and I totally agree with u,

It is apparent 4.3.6 is more stable while I feel 4.3.7  is a bit sluggish, I will be testing it more and if I discover anything of interest will post it.

I think it wud be a better practice to use the most recent web.config file that comes with the install package

Only one has to change the following (copy and paste from old web.config file):

1. <connectionStrings>

2. <appSettings> for the SiteSqlServer

3. <machineKey validationKey=

I have found the following post by leupold that has fixed my issue with the duplicating folders.  I've successfully upgraded my site to 4.3.7 and it appears to be working correctly.  There does seem to be some permission changes that I've had to fix and sometimes the page icons didn't transfer correctly, but I fixed those editing the Database directly.  4.3.7 seems to be fast and works well.

Here is the link that helped me fix my duplicating folders.  Use the leupold response to fix duplicating folders.
