Yes, I am using user controls. My modules are too complex not to logically separate functionality via user controls.

I will post a comment http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue/ViewIssue.aspx?id=4974.

Could there be something in the way you're creating your module?
Did you take a look at this post?
I've successfully converted over 3x modules to 4x and also created new modules without any issues.

If I create a simple module with just a display it works OK.

I copied the code from the DNN's URLControl and copied it to my solution (since I wanted the ShowControls method to be public).  I then dragged that control on the page (in my module) that I wanted to use it in.  Following are the issues:

  1. my solution works (prior to packaging it)
  2. if I package it with source (my solution works)
  3. I package it without source and creating the c:\compiled
    1. If I create an IIS virtual root pointing to c:\compiled (and I replace the web.config) then my module works
    2. when I install my solution in a DNN installation it does not work and gives the app_global.asax.dll error
  4. When I remove the URLControl then all works as expected.

My beleive is that since in the normal DNN installation Global.asax.vb is a VB file and not a DLL then for some reason it is being reference (even though I think I use nothing from it) AND in a normal DNN installation it is not found (as a DLL).... .so the error.

I beleive that I can solve the solution IF when creating the c:\compiled then I would have some way to say DO NOT COMPILE global.asax.vb to a dll BUT leave it as a vb file!!!! Something like this!!!!
