Hi,

After been waiting a long time for Store to be finished (it does not work in my world, can't get past the tax-number-format-error), I have no more excuses left for my boss. Also, in my opinion the Store project have a serious lack of credibility... so I have to find an alternative.

I have no problem buying modules, but so far I have not found a e-commerce module that is simple enough for my needs. All I want is a solution where you pick a product (with picture and other standard detail), enter some information and do a checkout. No PayPal or other providers, just an email to me and customer.

But so far I have not found any store that is simple enough for my need. The WebWarehouse (Store rewrite) module was very close, but it doesn't work either (got errors too), and CataLook is too extensive.

Have anybody tried any other solutions?

With kind regards,
Steinar

Catalook will do what you want but it may be an overkill. I had a similar situation where the client was a seed merchant - the solution I setup was a catalog system of products - user can search by specie etc and then he can select the product this then displays a detail page and the ordering info - in the seed situation there are several ways you can buy the product - the user clicks on the product option and this is added to a cart - when the user is finished and clicks the complete order an email order is sent to the vendor and the buyer and then the vendor prepares the order and sends it out. No need for stock control or accounting on line it was a simple email ordering system. Fairly simple to build - you could use the store database tables as the starting base and mod the tables as required download MyGeneration (free) and the DNN templates and it will build your base DNN files for you - then just design the user Gui ( you could use the dnnstore again as a starting point)( I think you might find a mygeneration template that will build most of the GUI for you)

Comersus is an good free package ( asp not asp.net) but again an overkill for what you want.

I am snowed under with work at the moment but if you are having problems finding a solution then send me an email with the basic requirements ( especailly the product file layout) and I will see if I could mod my clients solution to fit.

I just purchased the PayPal Product Catalogue from IndianGuru on SnowCovered for $69: http://www.snowcovered.com/Snowcovered2/Default.aspx?tabid=242&PackageID=3441&search=paypal&pagenumber=0&sortby=&tagid=. It is very simple and works great. I use it on my personal site: www.WisWeddingPlanner.com if you would like to check it out. I only have one item for sale on it now though. Good luck!

I recently had a nice chat with IndianGuru about his product.  While the price is right, one major shortcoming that I discovered is that it doesn't support product categories.  If you're just planning on selling a small number of items, I suspect this will work just fine, but I'm looking for something more.

I have been looking at various store modules. The best free one around is the lite version from Comersus. It has many nice feautures. Have a look at it. It may however be a bit more complicated as to what you require.

I just downloaded this product and, from what I've seen thus far, it seems quite respectable for free.  But, I just noticed that they also sell a .NET version which starts at a mere $49.  Any idea if this version is substantially better than the free classic ASP version?  Being a .NET developer, I'd be much more interested in working with this one if/when I get to the point where I need to do any customization to it.

I managed to buy WebWarehouse from Emerald Solutions some days before it got freeware. If you get past the IO path error (I guess most of you do), I found this solution to be a working copy of the core Store. It had some limitations, but it certainly is a simple enought store.

Also, I find many of the store modules to be less esthetic. All modules should be clean without fancy skins, bright colors and animations as a default install. That was one of the reasons I wanted to wait for the Store module, it had a clean cut that fitted nicely into my portal skin. Often I find myself spending more time fiddeling with the appearance than configuring the module.

And of course, it has to be a DNN module and not a free-standing application (like the Comersus cart).

So I have surrended and bought CATALooK.netStore Standard from dnnsoft.com. I've had no time to implement it yet, but I have been testing on my test portal and it look very nice so far. I fear I have to work with the appearance with this one too. And, like many of the other modules in DNN, it's too cheap ;)

With kind regards,
Steinar Svendsen

Note: I have read rumours that Store 2.0 is coming to town in version 4.4... that would be typical my luck. I have not read so much in the Store forums lately, so I will not criticise the team not informing the community about the progress. But after reading the latest team leader blog I guess it will be a fancy, unconfigurable Flash Store.

I just received the newletter from DNN and they mentioned the latest release 4.4.1.  I'm sorry to say the store module is not released.  I been considering purchasing a 3rd party store mod or looking into the code behind of the old ver.

Has anyone been able to add the code behind to the store mod for ex, the CustomerCart.ascx?
