I tried that.  When I set it to the IP address and then try to give the host name of dev.hyper.com, I get nothing but bad host name and bad IP address.

You might have to edit the host file.

Its usually located at windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

I set the IP address in the website tab and under the advance web site config I set the IP host header name to dev.hyper.com.  I have that set as an alias under dnn site manager.  I even tried having the default web dite (which would be '\') point to the directory of the DNN installation.  The only way I can get DNN to work is as a virtual directory and I have to have a redirect html file to get to browse to the right site.  I dont want that type of jerry rigging though.

When I set the IP address under the web site tab from (all unassigned) to the actual IP address of the server and then use the host header name as stated above, I cant get to the site all.  Even with the jerry rigged redirect.

What I want to do is get the '\' directory to be the DNN site with out have to redirct (so be the parent site insead of child directories being the site) and then be able to access that site from www using dev.hyper.com.

How do I do this?

#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each

# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.

# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.

#
#      102.54.94.97     rhino.acme.com          # source server
#       38.25.63.10     x.acme.com              # x client host

127.0.0.1       localhost

that is the hosts file
