Hello

An strange error occured in my DNN 4.3.7 site, I am unsure if this is a bug or not.

Is the Home Page and the Login Page one and the same?

My Login/Registration page I found to be using the Home Page skin as default and ignoring the page I had set for admin.

I changed my Home Page skin which also changed my Login skin (not suitable for Login). So I set about to create a custom Login Page (similar to default admin).

  • I created a custom skin intedended for Login and FTP'd new skin
  • I created 2 new Login Test pages using the new skin and added the Account User Module to the "ContentPane" of both: Site Login1, Site Login2.
  • Making both pages accessible from the main menu  for test purposes
  • I logged using both new Login pages for testing, they both worked fine and looked ok using the simple skin.
  •  I logged in and changed Site Login1 to "Site Login" and kept it accessible from the main menu.
  • I made the Site Login2 hidden and navigated to it via Admin/Page to test
  • I opened Site Login2 and went into page settings.
    • Page Name:  Site Login2
    • Page Title:  Blank
    • Description: Blank
    • Keywords: Blank
    • View: All Users
    • Page hidden: enabled
    • Page skin: LoginSkin
  • I changed the page name to Login so that I might then allocate this page as the site login
  • On 'Page Update'
    • prior to: Admin menu / site settings / advanced settings / Page Management
  • I was back taken to my new Login page but the skin had reverted to default (Home Page Skin) and the Breadcrumb displayed: Home as the current page but the address bar was Login.aspx.
  • I logged out and when I logged in normal the Login page Breadcrumb read: "Home" as current page.
  • I navigated back to my new Login Page (Address bar: Login.aspx.) I opened site settings:
    • Page name: Home
    • Page Title: As per Home
    • Description: As Per Home
    • Keywords: As Per Home
    • View: All Users
    • Page hidden: enabled
    • Page skin: As Per Home
  • I changed the page skin to: LoginSkin, Updated page and I was pleased to find that on Update the Login page was now using the new LoginSkin.
  • I logged out to test.
  • My Login Page was new using the new LoginSkin but so was my Home Page
  • I navigated to my unofficial Login Page  I decided to delete and start again (as I had not yet set it as official Login via Page Management)
  • However, on delete I found that I had also deleted my Home Page. (Now Restored)

It seems that the Home Page and Login are intertwined is this correct?

Can they be seperated, if so How can I seperate them?

Thanks

Lynn
