Hello,

I would like to migrate my actual website to the new DNN one... But before doing so, I would like to be sure that I will choose the correct module... I have a lot of data to migrate, and I do not want to make a mistake with the wrong module, and having to retype everything later with another module!!!...

Any advice is welcomed. I have a collection of links here : http://declic.video.free.fr/liens.htm

How would you handle this ??? Using the LINKS module is not so good, because I can organise it in category...
Is there any other module which would fit better ? Even a commercial module, I am ready to invest money if it's worth.

  • sometimes the simpliest ("Text/HTML") might be the best - due to your needs.
  • Links provides you with three standard formats
  • Repository allows for categories as well (but not show all at once)
  • User Defined Table (UDT) adds free (XSL) styles for each link, maybe also grouping (I have learned, that XML can do nearly everything)
  • and there are commercial modules as well.

Having examined a variety of links modules over time, but returned to the core links item since it recently aquired the ability the add a bullet image. The other not-to-be-overlooked benefit of using the core module is that it imports and exports its data.

You can also add the link description and it will appear as a tooltip, though Firefox doesn't display all of it.

There are many other links modules around including one that does simple categories, but you can easily emulate this by naming the module title as the category and then placing multiple modules on the page.

I do still have notes about some of the links modules I looked at, but I'm away on holiday for another few days and can't access them.

I've had a look at your page and think the core module is highly suitable if used as I've suggested. However, if you are planning on letting your users submit links for immediate publishing then you might prefer the repository. Note that the Repository does not export data even tho it looks as if it does.

Regards,
Rob
