I am trying to understand how asp.net and dotnetnuke handles 301 redirects. What I want to accomplish is the following:

I have a new website I am starting. I want to buy a bunch of smaller similar websites with forums written in asp, php or whatever and move them permanently to my DNN website. But I want all existing search engine spidered forum link results from these websites to load the equivalent forum page on my new website without any seo penalty or loss of rankings when someone clicks on the link.

Here is an example:

1.) I have the following URL link to port to my website:

websitetoportA.com/myforum.php?forumid=343&threadid=22

2.) I know that the equivalent URL on my website is

mysite.com/forums.aspx?tid=142&fid=1243

3.) I want search engines to know that the new permanent location for url #1 above is now url #2 and when someone clicks on the old link it takes them to the exact same content but redirected to my new website instead

My Questions:
A.) I need to get additional software to add to my IIS to do this right (anyone have a link or name of software to do this)?
B.) Where is the parsing and rule writing for this done? Is this done in the software I would buy above?

C.) Any tricks or problems here I would need to know about or with DNN? I don't know anything about this so would appreciate advice on best methods, etc....

Thanks,
Jason

You can't do this easily with DNN unless you want to write your own UrlRewriter

But look into ISAPI Rewrite
