I need to create a custom register module - business requirement - I notice that the old register.ascx is still in admin/security - is this kept for binary compatibility or why is it still there?

On another note I notice the new (simplistic) registration form is in the controls directory (user.ascx) but looking over source in the library I am not sure I understand exactly where that is used to actually create a user in the database.  Anybody point me to the right files?

Okay more questions along this subject - how do I add something to the users profile progmatically - say I have a value of company name that is generated after they register - or that is given to people who register under them or they register - how do I access that value in the person online and change or set it as needed?

Yes I can give you some basics - not to sound secretive or anything but email me and I will send you a Word doc with my code - its not perfect yet (and never will be) but its a start
