s2k, I have been using PowerDNN for about 6 months now. I have a total of 5 dedicated servers with them. One is a self-contained hosting solution with DNN, DotNetPanel control panel, SmarterMail, SmarterStats, Gene6FTP, etc. It is working out pretty well.

Don't scrimp on memory. My single server only has 1GB, but I am having another 1GB installed now.

The other four servers are all top end with 4GB RAM setup for a membership site that is about to be launched. I have two web servers behind a load balancer, a MySQL server and a Media server. PowerDNN has been helpful at getting the servers up and running.

Check them out at www.powerdnn.com. My referral ID is Forerunner if you decide to move forward with them. Tell Tony I sent you. Also, if you are setting up the server and need some help I can recommend some low cost alternatives.

Hope this helps.

Talking of the same topic, I'm planning to sign up for the Virtual/Dedicated Hosting plan of EasyCGI.com ($43.96/mo). Can anyone please give me some experience about it and answer the questions below for me?

1. I can't see any details concerning SQL Server. How do they let me use the databases? Is there a shared SQL Server plan?

2. How well do they handle DNN portals? For I've seen many good hosting companies struggling with DNN stuffs.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Duc

I have had a negative experience with EasyCGI with a Virtual Private Server hosting plan.  I think their support staff must get bonuses for closing support tickets.  I have raised a number of tickets with inadequate answers that they closed and I had to subsequently re-open.  They have a banner ad at this site - the shouldn't - the support staff I have corresponded with have very limited knowledge of hosting DNN sites.

I know you're looking for alternatives (rackspace might be worth a look), but I can't say enough about MaxAsp. I've had 4 servers with them for a few years now and wouldn't think about going elsewhere.

Thanks, that helps as well as they are really the only ones on our list so far.  How have they been in terms of uptime?  We need a 100% system or as close as possible for this application.  Any issues when contacting support?

I have 2 dedicated servers with MaximumASP. Reliable machines and super tech staff... no lie...any issue gets resolved usually within 20 minutes.
