Being new to DNN, I am confused as to the best way to set up the portals for our new site.  My company owns several events, each of which is unique and has its own domain name.  In our current website everything falls under folders in my company's website.  The individual domain names are redirected to to the correct url for that event (i.e. www.mycompany.com/events/event1 etc.).

We are preparing to rebuild the sites under DNN and each of the five sites will have it's own skin and unique content, although some content will be shared by all events.  Users are directed to each site via the event's unique domain name and through cross links in each site.  A few modules would also be shared by all sites.

As we rebuild the websites in DNN I want to make sure the portals are set up correctly.  Here are the three scenarios I envision:

Scenario #1

Scenario #2

EVENT1.MYCOMPANY.COM
EVENT2.MYCOMPANY.COM
EVENT3.MYCOMPANY.COM
EVENT4.MYCOMPANY.COM
WWW.MYCOMPANY.COM

Scenario #3

Which scenario would ultimately be the best?  I assume we will need a multi-portal user sharing module if we go with scenario 1 or 2?

Any advice that could offered would be appreciated.

Thanks!

If you already have the 5 unique domain names, #1 seems logic. You are still able to run all portals from the same instance of dotnetnuke. If you wanted to share users between the portals, you'd need a solution for that anyway.

See this thread for some more info about parent and child portals:   http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/ForumsDotNetNuke/tabid/795/forumid/108/threadid/95508/scope/posts/Default.aspx#95508
