When you have a link in your DotNetNuke custom module that navigates from a view control to a Edit control (see NavigateURL: How to make a link), all the other controls on the page disappear.

To get around this you can load the user controls on the page dynamically. The only problem I have with the dynamic method of loading user controls is it does not allow the portal administrator the ability to set the security (the view and edit permissions) for the dynamically loaded controls.

Sometimes this is not a big deal, but many times you have a separate user control because it truly has separate functionality and you would normally like to allow the portal administrator the ability to indicate which users and roles have access.

I really like the Blog module handles this. The Blog module creates 5 user control when the blog module is placed on a page. Not only does this allow each control to have separate security settings, but it allows the administrator the ability to move the arrangement of the user controls around and completely remove them.

This gives the portal administrator more control over how the module is deployed and configured. Even for in-house modules, this allows for changes that do not require you to re-code the module for unforeseen functionality.

How did you get the help system to working again? When I get a view control loaded the module still wants to display the default holding control's help file.

Thanks

Hi Olivier Dupuis

I was wondering about this technique using multiple View Controls, I can't get this to work for DNN V4.x/ASP2.0 when the code has been compiled.

This method works for me in DNN V3.x/ASP1.1 and as long as the code is not compiled it works in DNN V4.x/ASP2.

Please see my problem here:

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/ForumsDotNetNuke/tabid/795/forumid/111/threadid/91268/scope/posts/Default.aspx

If anyone can shed some light on the problem it would be greatly appreciated.

Right now I'm still using the module I developed for V3/ASP1.1 and compiled with VS2003 in my DNNv4.x.

The weird thing is everything works fine if the code is not compiled. It feels like some type of reference issue, but I can't locate the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In your solution what if each of these usercontrols has its own help information? ie, its own resource file.  When trying this approach i always see the help infor from the switchboard resource file. and when I click the help I notice the querystring information is gone.   also if each usercontrol overrides the ModuleActions, it does not show the controls links, only for switchboard control.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
