First I wanna apologize that this question must have been asked many times.

I have a new DNN installation at http://mydomain.com/dnn, but I want to access it as www.mydomain.com.

I have added a new Portal Alias of www.mydomain.com, but when I tried it, the browser displayed "You are not authorized to view this page" error and HTTP 403 (Forbidden).

What is the problem? Any help will be much appreciated.

you need a) add the portal alias and b) make the IIS web site pointing to the directory, where dnn is residing.

Hi,

create a default.asp (remember to set the default content page)  in the directory for the "www.mydomain.com" like:

<% @Language = "VBScript" %>
<% Response.buffer = true %>
<%
dim rs
dim t
rs = lcase(trim(request("i") & ""))
t = "www.mydomain.com"
if rs = "" then
    rs = "/dnn/"
elseif rs = "dnn" then
    rs = "/dnn/"
elseif rs = "d" then
    rs = "/dnn/"
else
    rs = "/dnn/"
end if
%>
<html>
<head>
<title><%=t%></title>
</head>
<frameset rows="*" framespacing="0" border="0" frameborder="0">
<frame name="def" scrolling="Auto" noresize target="contents" src="<%=rs%>">
<noframes><body>
<%
response.redirect rs
response.end
%>
</body></noframes>
</frameset>
</html>

Hope this helps

Hi Sebastian,

Yes, it works!!! I added a new IIS web site (not a virtual directory) with a different IP address pointing to the DNN directory. Then I added a new DNS record of www.mydomain.com to point to the new web site.

Thank you for your kind help and prompt response, and thanks also for Jarle for sharing an alternate method for solving this problem.

Regards - Bubu

Why don't you choose to install DNN in the root ?
