Hi,

I am now dealing with something that I feared in this project - skinning :)

Anyway, my website is secured and I want to display the top part of the skin only to authenticated users.

This part contains: LOGO, SOLPARTMENU, SEARCH and some other controls.

1. Is there a way to do that with DNN programming?

2. If not, I was thinking of writing my own user control, and place the top skin design in it. This control can check in runtime authetication and determine if the content is visible or not. Will that work?

And final question regarding styling of SOLPARTMENU. I see a lot of posts regarding this so I guess I'm not alone in this battle. Is there a good guide for doing this, it's pretty annoying, nothing seem to work as expected!

Many thanks

Ofer

Thanks!

I use this code now in my skin.ascx :

<script runat="server">
Private Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
    If DotNetNuke.Security.PortalSecurity.IsInRole("Registered Users") Then
            dnnMenu.Visible=true
    Else
            dnnMenu.Visible=false
    End If
End Sub
</script>

and of course now I can do whatever I want there, great tip!

There's still the other issue of formatting the SOLPARTMENU which I'm having trouble with. Whatever I try it look worse and worse

Any sample code or guide would be GREAT!

Many thanks

You can read about how to create skins in the DotNetNuke Skinning guide that is included with the DotNetNuke Documents download available from the Downloads page.

I learn better by examples. See some of the good free skinpacks in various published sites, www.thinkofdesign.com, or mine. We are upgrading our site to 4.4 in the next two weeks and with the launch I have another 2-3 free skinpacks.

Thanks for the links, though I didn't find the right example yet, but I'll work on that.

One thing I noticed with respect to the first issue of formatting my own Skin.ascx file is that DNN (specifically skin.vb) will search for any content panes only at the FIRST level.

In my case, I defined a server side wrapping table for my skin, so that I can set the background color dynamically.

However, the content panes were not recognized in this way, since they are child controls.

You can see that if you look at the admin control bar, trying to add a module but the Panes dropdown list is empty!

So that's a limitation of the DNN skin implementation that I need to find a way around it.

Thanks

Ofer
