I've downloaded the version 4 dnn files. If I use the starter kit, into MS Visual Web Developer, then CTRL F5 , it works fine, installs and away we go

However, that is no use to me at all. I need to get a site running locally, then on a live server, and cannot use Visual Web Developer to do that, so I need to use the source or install packages.

Whenever I use the source or install packages, I hit the same error, no matter what priviledges I try to set on my local machine.... basically the message tells me that the asp.net user does not have sufficient rights to edit web.config. I'm on windows xp pro locally.

I feel as though I must be missing something obvious, as I cannot believe that this package can be so hard to install as it seems to be.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a simple installation guide, for installing onto remote hosting. I've printed out the documentation etc. and read through it repeatedly, but no matter what I try, I can't get past this permissions hurdle. (unless the error message is telling fibs )

When this error message occurs things usually are pretty spot on as to the issue. Perhaps your IIS settings are different and it's running under a different user? Have you tried enabling full access to "everyone" at least just for testing purposes?

nice one, giving EVERYONE full access has allowed an install to complete.

However, this is not a good thing really, as I need to install to a shared hosting account shortly, and I doubt very much if they will be open to opening the site account folders so dramatically.
