Hello

I am using DNN4.4.0 and I have set the performance settings to:

  • Compression Level: 6
  • Performance: Heavy caching
  • Cacheability: ServerAndPrivate

I am using HostTracker to keep my site alive.

But from time to time it goes so slowww, for no reason, it could take several mins, to load or navigate to a page..

The site is still under construction so I don't have lots of visitors taking DB space. I don't have excessive modules or large image files on any page. My skin and containers are CSS based. My css is reduced via shorthand.  I have seperated the admin css styles (using John Mitchell's code ( snapsis)) onto a different file to load if required.

Any suggestions on how I might speed things up or find a solution?

Thanks

Lynn

Hi Lynn,

Sounds like you are on the right track.  Have you seen the Look'n For Speed thread?

You probably want to set Cacheability to Public.  In DotNetNuke it is a setting that applies to all pages in every portal, but if you don't want to do that for your whole site then you can also use code to set it in your Skin.

Changing HttpCacheability to Speed up your DotNetNuke Site

Sometimes it's just a matter of the host that you are using.

If you want to contact me with your url I can make other suggestions.

If I recall correctly others have experienced poor performance when their logs get too full.  You can try purging your log.

Hi Shawn

Thanks for the suggestion, I have not tried purging the site logs, although I have seen the settings in host/schedule. But I am so far not familiar with the process and am wary of interfering with the default settings, in fear of causing a bigger problem.

Hi John

Thanks for the suggestions and  links (very interesting).

I will send you an email.

Thanks

Lynn
