If I login in to my DNN site and then open another browser window to that same DNN site I get the current session. If I log off either session, then refresh the other session it also is logged off.

Don't think this is normal as would not only be a security breech but don't see how you could have 2 different users logged on at the same time.

What is wrong with my setup???

Thanks,

Dave

There's nothing wrong with your setup - that is how it works. Only one user can be logged in at a time from the same computer. The only exception to this is if you open two different types of browser on the same computer, e.g. IE and Firefox. Then you can be logged in in IE and not logged in in FF, or logged in as two different users in each browser.

The reason that only one user can be logged in at a time from the same type of browser on the same computer is that when a user is logged in, that fact is stored in a cookie file on the local computer. There can only be one cookie per site, but each browser type stores its cookie separately.

Is this on a host basis or portal basis?

If I use my supposed second portal URL I also get tot he first portal not the new second portal I configured.

Thanks, Dave

Its on a portal (i.e. site) basis. Cookies are stored by address of the site, so you have one cookie for www.abc.com and another for www.xyz.com.

If you are trying to open www.xyz.com and you end up getting redirected to www.abc.com, then that indicates a problem with the portal aliases, i.e. the addresses for each site. Log in as host, go to Host menu > Portals and look at the portal aliases for each portal.

My alias names were incorrect.

Thanks to jraven my problem is solved!

I added the /DNN subdir to my alias names and everything works! I get 200 OK headers for both of my portal URLs now. Documentation was clear as mud that one should have any subdir as part of the alias name...

Still, seems like the cookie for a DNN website could be session based rather than domain based which would allow multiple logins to the same portal.
