I am going in to upload a DNN 4.x website to a Windows server that may not have ASP.NET 2.0 on it. The server currently holds a website and a proprietary software package that handles client management for a debt-collection firm. If we have to install ASP.NET 2.0 to get the new website working, could it interfere with existing software? Does the server keep the old framework as well, or is ASP.NET 2.0 backward compatible with the previous?

If I didn't phrase everything correctly, bear with me. I am pretty new at the server stuff and was thrust into this by my boss - just trying to get this project done and minimize collateral damage :)

Also... I asked this over on Yahoo answers, and one of the responses was "Not good to load direct to Server. Nasty bad, terrible things happen". What were they talking about - uploading the website - the ASP.NET 2.0 - something else?

You should be able to load the .Net 2.0 framework without issue, but there's always the odd case where something will break.

When you install 2.0, both 1.1 and 1.0 (if installed) should still work on your server.

Another noob question, but I've experienced some uninstallers that leave things behind. If that odd case were to occur where something broke down, would uninstalling the framework send be back to my original starting point or would it likely remain busted?

Uninstall should not be a problem, .Net1.1 and .Net 2.0 are installed in totally different directories.
