While attempting to create the child portal I get "Error creating Portal" error. I have the latest DNN (04.03.04).

I realize that's not much of the error description, but that's all the diagnostics I get from the engine.

I had a similar problem after upgrading from 4.0.3

It seemed to be a faulty stored procedure, and I used the script provider here: http://dotnetnuke.com/Community/ForumsDotNetNuke/tabid/795/forumid/108/threadid/59490/scope/posts/Default.aspx to resolve the issue

I had similar problems after upgrading.  Unfortunately the stored procedure fix mentioned above didn't address the issue for me.  Ultimately I had to roll back to 4.0.3, create a few placeholder portals in the 4.0.3 version and then upgrade to 4.3.4 as I needed to upgrade to avoid the security issues.

There are a couple of support issues logged in Gemini related to this.  Unfortunately the most relevant one was just marked 'won't fix' by Charles Nurse.  Charles seems to believe this is related to a permissions issue.  I am almost certain that is not the case but I have not had time to debug the issue as it will require me to setup a separate environment.  When I did a SQL trace I found that the stored proc AddPortalInfo wasn't even being fired so something is blowing up prior to that.  Good luck.

I had the same problem with the installation failing at installing the portal.  To resolve the problem, I ensured that whatever permissions I gave the application root folder, the same permissions would be in effect for the child folders too.

My XP did not automatically change the permissions of the child folders when I made the changes to the App Root Folder.

Once I did this I was able to install w/o any problems.  I have done this twice now and both had succeeded.

Hope this can help.
