I can't figure out what's wrong. I keep getting the follow exception thrown when I run the app with CNTRL F5 from Visual Studio:

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Exception Details: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Source Error:

An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below.

   DotNetNuke.HttpModules.UrlRewriteModule.OnBeginRequest(Object s, EventArgs e) +3942

is this common or is something wrong with the install, or I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong?

Make sure you have ASP.NET ans NETWORK SERVICE rights to the folder before you start with CRTRL-F5. Also check your database connections and a possible object qualifier if you use one. I have had this error as well, and redoing what you have to do for an installation helped for me. Also check if you are doing a clean install that your database is empty (no tables left of previous wrong installation trials).

I have currently problems installing the 4.3.3 starter kit. I get the next error when i install the template (I have no other templates of other starter kits there). ftb.userinsertsmiley.aspx.resx (ftb unserinsertsimiley if you want to search on it). If I ignore this problem an continue to install in VS2005 I have a hanging installation on Forums. So I revert back to 4.3.2 and that works fine to me.

Thank you Jelle:

I did what you suggested and that worked like a charm..

I tried to do a 4.3.3 upgrade from 4.3.2 on my home system (which is completely different from the system and OS at work). This failed. I then deleted the database and the entire contents of the website (since there wasn't any real work I would lose there). I recreated a new database, making sure to give ASP/NET the ownership permissions. I did not recreate the virtual directory on IIS, nor change any permissions on the NTFS folder in which the previous version of DNN worked fine.

I then downloaded the 4.3.3 starter kit, ran that, and created a new project in VS2005. Upong so doing, I received the same error...ftp.userinsertsmiley.aspx.resx missing, along with warning that project might not build. I renamed relsease.config to web.config and made the changes necessary to get it to connect to the new database, which

I built the project...without errors. However, when I browsed to the website to perform the reinstall, the installation failed. No errors...simply got a blank page in which nothing happened at all.

I've run into the same problem with the ftp.usersmiley.aspx.resx file.  It runs ok, initially, but I cannot create my own custom C# modules using the templates the starter kit provides (it complains of more missing files).

Let me know if you find a solution.  Maybe 4.3.3 itn't so final after all!
