Hello.  I am new to this and have been searching.  Apologies if there's an obvious thread/post that I've missed.

I have an existing website using ASP.NET 2.0 Membership security/login etc.  I am going to be adding DNN to the website and would like to know the best way to install/configure DNN and my site to use the same aspnet_* tables and not lose my existing user base.

I appreciate any assistance.  Thanks.

It is possible. You can install DNN into existing database. You should specify objectQualifier in web.config to distinguish DNN tables and your tables. But to use some of your tables instead of DNN tables, you should change all DNN stored procedures that uses DNN membership tables. Or you can modify your application to use DNN tables.

You can do this by setting the "InstallMemberRole" key in your web.config to "false". This way the install with skip the aspnet member scripts but will run all the other necessary sql scripts.

Excellent, thanks for the replies.  Cathal -- how would I then place the existing users into roles?  Is it a manual process?

Could I also just change the web.config (after an installation) so that the membership uses a different connection string?

I have attempted this several times now.  When I set installMemberRole to false, my portal cannot be created.  The installation says it succeeded, but an error is seen at the bottom of the default.aspx installation page indicating that an error occurred.

I then attempted a clean install leaving installMemberRole as true and it succeeded.

Are the host and admin accounts created during the installMemberRole processing?  If so, do I need to manually create those account prior to the installation (and also update their passwords in the install.config files found in the subdirectories)?

Help requested and appreciated.

Thanks.
