Hello All

I have recently had a lot of downtime on Smart-Thinker,com due to unexplained WH4L outages, so I did some research into other hosts (there are hundreds of threads that discuss the various options) and decided to try PowerDNN (Tony Valenti is a regular poster on these Forums, and it’s great to supprt fellow DNNers).

Out of interest, I am posting the results here – hopefully this will help anyone else if they are thinking of switching hosts. I should also state that I have nothing against WH4L – they do respond relatively quickly, but my site was chugging along and seemed to go down for no reason every now and again. I will leave the old website on WH4L for a few weeks as a speed comparison so you can judge for yourself.

Please do NOT update data on the old site as it will be discarded. I also recommend that you only judge the speed after your first hit in case the old site has not yet been loaded. The site is 99% identical (about a week out of date) so any speed differences are down to the hosting server. Out of interest, I ran the 2 sites through a website speed-tester, and you can see quite a difference!

Let me know what you think - you can see the results here (and if you do sign up to PowerDNN, please mention Smart-Thinker.com!)

This doesn't seem like a valid or fair comparison - aren't you comparing a $5/month service at WebHost4Life with a $50/month service at PowerDNN? With the less expensive service, the hosting provider will presumably have more shared sites on a single server and therefore performance will be slower. You get the performance and service level that you pay for, don't you?

Hello
Basically I had 2 personal plans on Wh4L at $10 each, with 3 email accounts ($10 a year each)
This equated to $20 a month +  $30 for the mail  a year.

Certainly interesting figures Rodney thanks for sharing. I have a number of sites and accounts at W4L and as you say the performance has been erratic over the last 3-months. Having said that they have been a good provider to me way back since the DNN1 days and interestingly the static html sites I have with them work perfectly.

Regards
Nick

Please note -this is a site about comparison speeds.  Not what a hoster has to offer, please keep this on topic to ensure posts don't get deleted due to spamming the forums!!

Thanks
