Hi All,

I was just trying to create a forum on a web site. It creates ok and I can set it up as host. However, when I try to log onto the site as a user I got the following error message. Now I just get 'critical error' and no meaningful message.

Does anyone know what might be happening?

Thanks

Peter

I recevied the error... "Path is too long..." while signed in under one user, but it didn't give the error under another user.  I removed the user from DNN and then added them back in and it worked.  This happened under 3.01.04 for me.

Don't know if this is the same issue you are experiencing.

I too am getting the error "The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters".

I have been looking for an answer to this for a while as I really would like to start using the Forums.

I saw another post on the ASP.NET forums saying "This problem is related to the default core web.config setting of BroadcastPolling.  There is a bug in it which can be avoided if you set this to off I believe it was.  This is also only a problem if you are using File based caching and not database", my web.config says I am using the FileBasedCachingProvider, but I do not know how to switch to using database caching?

Richard.

You can change to memory based caching from the hosts settings menu.

Thanks, I checked that and I am already using Memory based caching so obviously isn't the problem. The other poster said I should be using Database caching as opposed to File (no mention of Memory?).

Thanks
Richard.
