Hi,

I have a DNN 4.3.5 installation on a test server and I want to export the template to a production server.

Exporting works but on the new installation I see only the pages but not the modules on them (empty pages), so I have to manually add each module on a page (pretty long process).

Is there a way to export the *entire* site configuration including the module definitions on pages?

Many thanks!

Ofer

make sure, you install the modules you use on the target server first. If you use the template to create the portal during install, rename the modules you use in /install/modules from .resources to .zip

Another option is to install dnn on the target server, install all modules you use, add the production address as portal alias and than backup the database on the test server, restore it on the production sql server and alter database connection string in web.config. This will of course transfer all portals of your installation.

Thank you for your reply!

I have a question regarding what you said:

"If you use the template to create the portal during install, rename the modules you use in /install/modules from .resources to .zip"

Since this is exactly my case, but I didn't understand what you mean.

Can you explain this statement a little bit?

Many thanks!

Ofer

from version 4.4.0 on, most of the modules do net get installed during framework installation as well, but get being prepared for install only.

  • To setup a module for getting installed during framework installation/upgrade, place the install zip (called PA) in folder /install/module before first hitting your site.
  • To prepare a module during framework installation/upgrade for being available in the optional module list, place the install zip (called PA) in folder /install/module before first hitting your site and rename it tp .resources.
