This is bogus!  Not what I would have expected or become used to with this product!  I've read this thread.  Followed instructions.  Nothing works, but I am getting a completely new error message (notice the spelling):

Could Not Load Skin: /Portals/_default//skins/dnn-blue/verticall menu - fixed width.ascx Error: The file '/DotNetNuke/Portals/_default/skins/dnn-blue/verticall menu - fixed width.ascx' does not exist.

This is clearly a different issue.  If you have the source code version, I would search the skin files for the word "verticall" and change it.  What version of DNN are you using?

Version 4.4.1. install download as recent as last night.  I changed the file name as indicated, but then the whole site bombs.  This version is also missing the skin.vb file in the admin\skins directory as evidence by opening a dependent code-behind file. 

Doing a clean install of prior version instead....
