I've been using the starter kit to install DotNetNuke and create my first portal.

This works just fine.

But when I close visual web developer express and refresh the portal start page in Firefox, it can't be found.

Followed the simple steps: installed .NET, SQL, VWD, IIS.
Then run DotNetNuke_4.4.1_StarterKit.
Then created a new DotNetNuke web project in Visual Web Developer and hit Ctrl+F5
Is there more steps to it?

As you see I'm a new DNN user...

I'll try to explain better.

If I start Visual Web Developer and build my project everything works alright and I can view the portal in Firefox. This starts the ASP.NET development server.
But if I close VWD the ASP.NET development server also closes down.

How would I manage this on a webserver? Always run VWD on the Windows 2003 server? Choose another way of installing DotNetNuke?

One thing that was odd with my installation with the Starter Kit is that the portals adress was: http://localhost:1610/dotnetnuke

However in Internet Information Services the virtual path is localhost/dotnetnuke...

So I opened that adress in Firefox and it build a new portal. And this portal does not require that Visual Web Developer is running.

I guess that answers my question - VWD does not have to be running on the server.

But - I don't yet understand what happened in the first place, and I cannot locate this new portal in VWD, but I guess I'll find it someday.
