I guess I spoke too soon.

Logged into one of my portals and made some changes to the site settings and hit update.

Error: Site Settings is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.PortalManagement.SiteSettings.cmdUpdate_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

I recently upgraded from 4.3.4 to 4.4.1. I have tried turning off compression and re-starting the app. The error is still there.

I don't understand why we keep getting these 'Object ref not set' errors. Surely the code should be checking if an object IS Nothing before trying to use it? How about more useful error logging for the developers? Shouldn't DNN have a trace log that can be mailed to the developers? I thought the whole point of .NET is better code and better error handling than classic VB?

Any ideas anyone?

The problem has gone away!

Logged in this morning and updated site settings no trouble.. I guess something must have been cached or not refreshed?? Odd.

However, I had another problem this morning. Not so serious but annoying. The site wizard called my template file from 4.4.0 'invalid'.
And I was unable to upload a site I've been working on. Had to build it all manually and upload page content one module at a time...
what a drag..

oh well.. seems ok now.
