I would like to use the sql express database file rather then setting up a database within sql 2000 server. Do i need to install sql express in order to do this? Because when i try to run the site now, its saying it cant connect to the database specified in the connection string.

I left the all the default values in the connection string. I also tried putting in the full path to the mdf file - :c:\inetput\wwwroot....etc etc with the same results. Also tried setting write permission on the app_data folder but that didnt help either.

thanks

Ian,

You need to install free SQL 2005 Express (or any version of SQL Server 2005) to run the database file.

hmm, turns out i actually had sql2005 installed, but it wasnt being used. So i uninstalled everything sql2005 related and then installed sql2005 express. Still no good. Keeps giving me the same error:

Error Installing DotNetNuke

Current Assembly Version: 04.04.01

ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider

any ideas what might be wrong here? Do any specific permissions need to be set on the app_data folder?

nevermind, finally got it fixed. I had to replace the db with a fresh one and then reset the permissions. seems like it started the install and then failed and then when i tried to do the install again it failed because of this.

thanks
