You may not like what I'm going to say but if you are working with 4.3.7 I would recommend you to scrap that and start all over with 4.4.1.

Don't even attempt to update, create a new directory for 4.4.1, unzip the install package, create the virtual directory in IIS pointing to the new 4.4.1 directory and that is all you should have to do. I just did it myself on my notebook and it worked the first time. It is really that easy.

You don't even have to modify web.config, that is, if you have previously installed SQL 2005 Express. If you are going to use SQL 2000 then you have to adjust the web.config file connection string (in two places). Also, I know that ASP.Net 2.0 was working fine on my machine.
