Also, there is another statement that needs clarification/correction.  Once an assembly is loaded it cannot be unloaded with unloading the AppDomain.  This means that short of recycling the Worker Process any assembly in memory will stay in memory even if it is unused.

I was unaware of this line, I stand corrected.

It's not ASP.NET's default behaviour to load all assemblies in the \bin directory. This line in the web.config is forcing them to.

Ed - As Joe pointed out, you are incorrect.  That line is in the default web.config from the installation - therefore it is the default behavior.  Whether it is good or bad could be debated, but the default behavior it is.

Semantics. 

It is the default behaviour of DNN, but it is only because that line is thrown into the web.config file on your behalf from the powers that be.

If it were the default behaviour of the .NET framework, you wouldn't need that line added in the web.config.



But you are correct, it is the default behaviour of DNN itself.
