1.  Backup your site and database
2.  Download the latest upgrade version for version 3
3.  Rename release.config to web.config
4.  Copy over your settings for machineValidationKey, MachineDecryptionKey, and sqlserver
5.  Merge in any other nonstandard changes to the web.config file

Now you should be able to update your site.  If you have an active site you might want to put a app_offline.htm file to take the site offline while you are doing the upgrade.  You would then need to navigate directly to install.aspx to install the update.  This is all contained in the installation guide that is avaialble for download.

Julia, there might be another required copy from your previous web.config file.

Look for keys under key machineKey named validationKey, decryptionKey...

and copy those to your new web.config file on the same place, overwriting the keys of the updgrade.

Firstly, make sure that the username you choose for your child portal's administrator hasn't been registered in its parent portal.

Secondly:

(These keys are used to encrypt your password.)
