I am doing a fresh install of 04.04.01 on Server 2003 with SQL2000 on a second box.  I have ASP.Net permission set in security, IIS Default server on 192.168.1.10/DotNetNuke.  I edited web.config, putting in the connection strings: uid=DotNetNukeUser;pwd=DotNetNukeUser;.  When I go to http://192.168.1.10/DotNetNuke/Install/Install.aspx?mode=Install, I get this:

Error Installing DotNetNuke
Current Assembly Version: 04.04.01
ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider

I checked everything I can, and can't find what's wrong.  I changed the uid/pwd to our sa/pw and get a new set of errors.  Nothing, however, gets the installation to start.

I have the DotNetNuke 4 by Wrox.  HELP.  What am I not seeing?

make sure, you commented both sql Express connections strings and uncommented SQL2000/2005 settings.

Yes, I did that.  I also checked under IIS in the ASP.Net tab to make sure I'm set for ASP version 2.0.xxxx.  If you click on Edit Configuration you can see (and edit) the web.config settings.  P.S. This is a nice alternative to using notepad.

Sorry for the basic question but, did you create the database in SQL 2000 already?  Did you create a SQL Server login for DNN?  (Hopefully you are not using SA for this)  Can you connect with the new user from the IIS machine to SQL Server using Query Analyzer?

The install process needs the database to be created before hand so that it can create all the data structures.

I can access the database thru query analyser and Enterprise Manager using DotNetNukeUser for uid/pwd.  I also noticed that a table called Version that has no data in it did get created.  (I did previously tried using my sa/pwd in the connect string and did get a different upgrade error).  So maybe that was what wrote the Version table.  Don't know.  I set the connectionstring back to the requested DotNetNukeUser (in both <connectionStrings> and  <add key="SiteSqlServer" value= pairs.  Arg!
