Hi,

I found several topics online, how I have to install DNN in Plesk 8.1

My situation is slightly different, so I am not sure, if the installation process is equal.

My Plesk application doesn't give me the possibility, to activate dnn in the plesk.
That's why, I simply create the domain in Plesk and then I install dnn "from the ouside of plesk", in the specific folder.

My question to you:
How do I have to install dnn (config-file contents and so on) OUTSIDE of Plesk, after I created my domain IN Plesk? Obviously, there must be done some changes during the "usual" installation, to be successful.
Does anybody know the exact way or does anybody know a URL with the exact installation-guide for this specific scenario?

Thanks a lot for your hint.

regards
Patrick

You should be able to setup the URL in plesk, load the files to the appropriate directory, then navigate to the URL to have DNN complete the install.

NOTE: you will need to configue the web.config file first!

Hi Mitchel

Thanks for your answer.
I have to tell you, that my installations where successfully, as long as I installed dnn after creaging a website inside IIS.
That means, that I configured web.config with success, I also created the database in sql server 2005, and set the rights for "network service" at http-docs level.
The same installation process doesn't work anymore, if the domain was created in plesk first.
If I load the files in the http-directory, as you told me, edit web.config as I did it before, I don't have success with the installation anymore. So there must be a sight difference during the installation. Do you think, that the web.config must be configured differently? Where could the installation differ in this case?

Thanks for your hint.

regards
Patrick

Hi Mitchel

This is the message i get during installation:

(My connection string: Server=GIC-VDW-228-078;Database=dnn5;uid=dnn5user;pwd=123456;)

...and note that compression.config was never at that location (it is in the folder config). And the file was found, as long as I set up the website without Plesk.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'C:\Inetpub\vhosts\click-twice.net\httpdocs\Compression.config' is denied.

ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}\ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true"/>, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user.

To grant ASP.NET access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Highlight the ASP.NET account, and check the boxes for the desired access.
