I'm evaluating DNN, and I have a couple of questions that haven't jumped out at me in the documentation I've read so far...

1. Does DNN have URL rewriting capability without adding an extra module? If so, is it automatic/default, or is it optional?

2. Is DNN capable of displaying 100% valid XHTML/CSS? If so, does one have to go to great lengths to do so? Do the modules or third-party add-ons tend to break sites that are otherwise 100% valid? Valid code is important to me, because I strive for crisp, perfect layouts using CSS and table-less design. Does DNN tend to throw a lot of tables into the layout? I guess what I'm asking is, is DNN friendly to those who are picky about using only valid XHTML and CSS and who strive for table-less design wherever possible?

Thanks,
John

  1. Yes.  Default.
  2. Yes, it is possible to make your site 100% compliant  However the markup rendered by most modules (including core) may not be.  Here is a link for more info.

100% valid XHTML output should be a requirement of all DNN modules. It's hard to develop good layouts when invalid XHTML throws my browser into "quirks mode" all the time and breaks my tight XHTML/CSS layouts.

Invalid XHTML = "A hacker coded this. This is not a polished, professional product."

That's funny right there...  :)   It's a nice goal but...

Sometimes it is just not possible using ASP.Net controls, although this excuse is fading quickly.

Good luck on finding only professional, polished modules. Although you may miss out on some really good and functional modules that us hackers are developing.

Wow, smithy... pretty harsh.

And how much did you pay for YOUR version of Dot Net Nuke?  Oh, that's right, it's free.  Oh, and you can modify the source code, too?

I think for a free, open-source product on the market today, the coding is excellent.  Not sure why you are so critical.
