First up: I am a newbie, and I apologize if this post is redundant. I spent some time searching for answers, and it kinda made me even more confused. I have been using DNN for a while for the website for the church where I am employed. Everything was set up by a friend who was physically hosting the site. Recently, he has had new business opportunities which have led him to not be available for hosting. He set up everything on the original site, so I understand and know very little. I am responsible for adding content...

I signed up with webhostforasp.net to move the site over and allow them to host it. The site is moved over (copy of the database and all the files moved) and the temp site is viewable, but I'm having the troubles listed below:
1. When I look at the temporary site on the new host (I haven't had the name switched from the old host yet, because there are still problems with the new site) using FireFox 2.0.0.2, the main menu bar is missing. If I log into the site as an admin, then the menu bar comes back, and seems to work just fine. When I log out, its gone.
2. Also in FireFox there is gibberish at the bottom of the page like:
".spm_initMyMenu(null, spm_getById('dnn_dnnSOLPARTMENU_ctlMenu'));function onxmlloaddnn_dnnSOLPARTMENU_ctlMenu() {return "
3. Once I'm logged in (still in FireFox), I cannot change the content of Text boxes. If I add a new text module, I can't type in the box.
4. So I switch over to IE 7, (because I had trouble in the past using FireFox to update/add text and also some problems with adding pictures to text/html boxes). The menu bar is there and seems to work. The gibberish text seems to be gone from the bottom of the page. But when I attempt to log in, it won't work. I put in the user name and password and it sends me back to the default page without any admin rights. So, I can't get in to edit...

I'm not sure how to tell which (if any) of these problems are due to the new host not having something set properly and/or which of these problems are do to some error i've made, etc etc.

If there is help out there, I'd be appreciative.

Thank you,
Eric Wyatt

If you have these kind of strange problems it could be that you DNN is running in an application pool with both .NET 1.1 and 2 applications.
They cannot be mixed!
If you use v3.x it should be in a pool with only .NET 1.1, for 4.x .NET 2.0.
Ask your host about this (although they should know this)

Thank you. I will pass this along and see if it helps solve some of the problems. I appreciate the info.

Apparently that isn't the problem. According to the tech guy, if there was a conflict like you suggested, the system is set up to just give me a "page unavailable" message, rather than showing corrupted content.

Back to the drawing board.

Thanks, though.

First up - do you know which version of dotnetnuke you are running ?

It really feels like a compatibility problem between the version of DNN and the version of ASP.NET.

DNN 2.1.2 and DNN 3.x require your hosting to be configured with ASP.NET 1.1

DNN 4.x require your hosting to be configured with ASP.NET 2.0

>>> At a guess - the hosting is set for asp.net 2.0 and the site is dnn 2.1.2 or dnn 3.x
