Hi guys,

I recently upgraded my site from version 4.0.0 to 4.0.2, however now it will not run. I backed up my site, made a copy of the backup, extracted the contents of the 4.0.2 install zip over the copy, renamed release.config to web.config, and uploaded it again.

In the web.config file, I copied over the connection string in both <connectionStrings> and <appsettings> yet still I receive a server error. When I use the old web.config file it works fine. What do I need to do to the new web.config file?

Cheers, Sean

You must copy the machineKey validationKey from your old web.config to the new web.config.

And second have a look for the trust level in your old web.config.

Thanks for your reply HP,

I have coped the validation key across, yet still I am receiving a runtime error.

Anything else that perhaps I'm forgetting to do?... :(

Hm,

one very important thing can be to re assign the folder permissions to the dotnetnuke folder and all sub folders.

What do you mean reassign folder permission? Where do I do this?

Is there any reason why I cannot continue using my previous web.config file? It seems to work fine with the old one...
