Since doing our website in DNN, I've had little nuisance type problems with the text/html module...just today discovered all this chatter about FCK Editor and am glad to know there may be an alternative. Howver, I am a little confused. Is this download considered a module for DNN that can be used for text boxes instead of using the text/html module? I'm not sure from reading if this is an actual module as we know them or is it something else? Thanks..

Hi Joanie

No the FCK editor is not a module but a much superior replacement for the "editor window" that allows rich text and html to be edited.
Its a collection of files copied over to the Providers folder and a minor change to your web.config.
It may not solve your niggles but I am sure you will be pleased with the improved features.

OK..I am having my webhost provider install it for me since that's a little over my head. Where will I see it show up? Will I still select the text/html module to add to my DNN pages, then just the rich text editor window will function differently?

Also...I see a lot of little changes for things made to web.config and also something called css. Where are these, if I ever wanted to change something there? Thanks..

Hi Joanie

You just use the edior as you did before - that is choose edit text and it will load.

CSS stands for cascading style sheet. Basically a text file containing values that govern almost every style value.
That includes page background colours, text sixe and colour, skin pane size and many more. In fact if you can see it there is probably a css value for it somewhere.  CSS is ow you change the look of your site.

The big advantage to css is that one sheet can apply to all pages which means you can change, say the normal text colour and all pages will then use that value.

DNN  has a few of these css files and its not possible to explain it all here.
You might start with the skinning guide - part of the dnn documentation or have a look though the skining forums
It may be a good idea to buy one of the dnn books - others may be better able to advise you on which one.

Ian

Thanks Ian...that was a really good explanation of what CSS does. Thanks for responding. I do, ,in fact, have the DNN book (the one with all the programmers lined up on the front). It is a help for some things and over my head for others. Even still, I refer to it often. Thanks again. Joanie
