Does anyone know if its possible to create a direct URL link with items that have been entered into the repository?

I would like for my members to be able to give a URL address in their blog, that links to an ite they have entered into the repository?

I know that I can link directly to the module itself, but can't see how to link to a members entry....

Any ideas, or 3rd party software out there?

Thanks

Dan

yes, you can create a direct hyperlink to an item in a Repository module, in fact that's exactly what the Dashboard does when you set the dashboard mode to 'latest', or 'popular' or 'highest rated', it creates links directly to repository entries.  However, since the URL is a rather long list of querystring parameters, I doubt it will meet your need of allowing a member to drop a link into their blog entry

Can you explain to me how you would like it to work? Would you expect a member to go to a Repository item and copy a URL then go to their blog entry and paste it? If that's the case, I may be able to add a 'permalink' feature in the next release which is about 99% complete and due ( well actually overdue ) for iminent release.

Dan,

Before you respond, also please think about how you would envision a 'permalink' working in regards to security. If you setup a Repository module with items that are only viewable by a particular security role, and you place a [PERMALINK] tag on your template so that a permalink URL is displayed for each item, then you create a public blog entry and paste that permalink .. .what would you want to happen when someone who is not a member of the required security role clicks on the permalink URL?

Steve,

Correct in what you said above, I would  expect a member to go to a Repository item and copy a URL then go to their blog entry and paste it.  A pemalink would be a spot on way of doing it.

Regarding the link between the blog and repository and a non member clicking on it, I guess a standard DNN message saying you need to be logged in to view the link.  I don't think I'd want non members to be able to view the repository entry.

Thanks for your help.  Do you need anything else?

Cheers

Dan

nope, thanks Dan, that's all the info I need.

I'll do my best to include a [PERMALINK] tag in the upcoming release.
