I don't see where is the point ?

If you .DNN file is correct with all references to your files, your working environment ok. For each new version you have just to create a new DNN package from your working environment. You get ther zip file, and you upload it on your life environment :-)

There are install/updates more complex then that one :-)

I appreciate your  taking the time to talk about this.

I can assure you that I have been doing this for 3 months now and if I change something fundamental about about the module, say add a new control, change something in the dnn like the friendly name or the name to display on the screen I have no choice but to uninstall and re-install the module if all I do is hit f5 in VS and the site comes up and runs.

If I just make some logic changes without changing the module or control structure, then the new functionality appears immediately without any problem.  Also, as a test I put in IUpgradeable in the businesscontroller and upped the version number.  Built and ran (all in development) and when I logged in as host the module reported it was the previous version.  I told the app to restart and still got the previous version number.  Turned IIS off/on, still had old number.  Wasn't until I uninstalled the module and reinstalled it that the rev number changed.

Thanks,

Jeff Landry

you can install the module using two ways:

using the host login (as you are doing).

using the url.

I was talking about the module update using the URL. using this procedure you can install the module without un-installing the previous version of the module. Follow these steps to install the new version of module without un-installing the current version of the module.

-- Place the module zip package in Install\Module folder.

-- Navigate to this URL. "http://servername/install/install.aspx?mode=InstallResources".

-- Open you portal page again.

Now your module is updated.

Hope this will help you ?

If you trouble updating your module by uploading new release, i think you should double check referenced files and *.dnn file.
