I too am installing dnn 4.02 on GoDaddy – with mixed to poor results.

Using GoDaddy to install 3.1 works fine and if you upload new module definitions I guess you will get as close to 3.2 as possible. GoDaddy’s weird "Virtual" directories has the dnn existing in thin air – you can’t get to it.

I’ve been trudging along installing dnn 4.02 on GoDaddy’s "Deluxe" hosting plan. I have 4.02 up and running however eMails still refuse to be sent out when a new member signs up and the Newsletter bulk eMail section. Adding a post in the Forum module does result in an eMail being sent out in about 12 hours.

This eMail problem is dnn’s fault – that’s my conclusion after 2 weeks of screwing around with eMail; GoDaddy has checked that my site and the eMail function works fine.

Another bug in dnn 4.02 is the Gallery module – I’ve uploaded the current version from dnn and all I get is the error "A critical error has occurred" – "Unable to cast object of type 'ASP.default_aspx' to type 'DotNetNuke.Modules.Gallery.Container'."

Another bug is trying to upload your own Avatar "My Settings" "User Settings" I upload my Avatar and it’s name is displayed on the Avatar line but disappears when you leave the page as in clicking "Update".

So we will have to wait for all these bugs to be cleared up before Avatars appear in our posts.

You can take the "admin" to "Forum Administration" then click "Gallery & Emoticons" Click the briefcase to invoke the "Gallery Wizard". Click "add" for Images, Smiles, Avatar, System Avatar".

Then add the correct answers to "Smiley Gallery", "Image Gallery", "Use Avatar Gallery", "System Avatar Gallery"..

Make sure the "Enable Smiley?" is check-boxed.

Good luck; but don't spend more time - too many bugs need to be fixed before avatars can be used correctly

i have the same issues as you PerryM. really wish emoticons and avatars worked....i can choose emoticons when posting a forum but any i choose (and the different pics of them dont appear when choosing, just the different names) results in the same smiley face emoticon. as for the avatars, PerryM is right on.

An update…

I did get eMails to work…the parameters GoDaddy published are wrong; using the host member go to Host Settings and under SMTP Server Settings enter:

Relay-Hosting.SecureServer.net

Then click Test and you will see that eMails do work.

I did, however, settle for DNN 3.2; 4.0X is just to unstable and vendors have yet to convert but a few programs to run on this platform.

I have the standard Gallery working; I reloaded the current version from dnn and it seems to work fine and it integrates with Forum just fine.

I am progressing with DNN 3.2 and after spending 3 weeks of experimenting with dozens of 3rd party modules hope to start active implementation by April 1.

I am shocked at the absolute amateurish attitude of most of the 3rd party vendors.  They have a hard time upgrading their product from DNN 2.X to 3.X to 4.X – but they don’t have a problem collecting money to sell you a module that won’t work on 3.2 and seem to not care.

I’ve returned 50% of the modules I’ve bought from the leader in this industry (you know the folks with the snow covered mountain image).  The distributor is receptive to complaints and passes them along and apparently that is enough to get the vendor to refund the money.

On the whole, DNN is an unbelievable “gem” in the rough stage right now and can easily turn into a Diamond with hundreds of thousands of web sites using the platform.  The 3rd party vendors should grow up and realize that those in first will benefit the most.
