Hi All,

I am trying to install DNN 4.5.1 on a 1and1 MS Business Hosting Plan and running into the following problems:
1. 1and1 only supports ASP.NET 2 in the root folder. If you create a sub folder anywhere else besides the root, you can only run ASP.NET 1 applications against it.  This means I can only run DNN 3 and below in any other folders besides the root folder.
2. Since I am trying to install DNN 4.5.1, I have to use the root folder.  The trouble is that the NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE does not have modify access to this folder by default and there is no way I can find to do this.
3. I went ahead and copied all the DNN files and folders to the root and granted the NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE modify access to each of the DNN folders - admin, portals, providers... and web.config.  I tried running the installation and now the installation wizard cannot go past the permission test.  I get the "Your site failed the permissions check" error and cannot proceed.

Has someone encountered this problem or has anyway of going around giving NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE modify access to the root DNN folder, or any tricks I can use?

Thanks.

Henry

Most hosting providers will manually modify the permission set for you if you submit a support ticket.

That is what I was forced to do with my hosting provider when I first setup with them.

I've encountered exactly the same issue with 1and1. I've telephoned their technical support, and got through to a guy called Jomar in the Philippines, with whom conversation really difficult - I had to speak very slowly, I had to repeat myself many times and even then I don't think he properly understood my problem. His typical response to most questions was to just go quiet on the line!

His final solution was that I should "research the problem on the internet and find a script to run" - i.e. he couldn't possibly be any less helpful!

Fortunately I am still in my 30-day trial period, and I'm planning to exercise my right to cancel. My conclusion is that OneAndOne are unsuitable for hosting DotNetNuke, and I'm glad I've found out sooner rather than later, because their technical support is useless and I don't want to be tied to a company that has such dreadful service.

Conclusion : AVOID 1and1 !!!!
