para - guess it depends on how secure dnn needs to be - you could always run it through a vpn tunnel or something to keep it super secure if you have different locations but for the most part dnn is a lot less hasle for users than windows authentication systems over the web and such

Given its an intranet. Security isn't too much of a concern. We'll need to be pci, owasp, etc compliant. But its behind the firewall anyway. Only danger will be malicious employees. I haven't heard of any security bugs with DNN.

To be fully aware of any security bugs in DNN there is a security bulletin section on this site that lists bug fixes etc.

Just make sure that you are up to the most current version of everything.
