I really misunderstood your problem - I don't add the account module on a page on my solutions.
Sorry for that.

Again regarding your problem with the account module. I've updated to 4.5.3 recently. I've tested the module - now it works.

I have the same issue. I just created a fresh install with 4.5.3 and if I am logged in as host, I cannot see the account login module until I log out. That means I aanot edit the login module properties, and because I added it a couple of times while I was trying to figure out what was happening, I cannot delete the extra login modules. Weird.

The following link has a workaround for the hide & seek login module:

DNN 4.5.3 Account Login can not be added to page.

Thanks for the link... but how does one change to 'design mode'?

 

Do you mean in the upper left corner, switch to Mode: View?

If so, I did and that did not do the trick for me
