"Stupid is as Stupid Does" - Forrest Gump

Yesterday I completed the majority of a new DNN site that I have been working on and was preparing to move it to a production server. For some reason (being stupid) I decided to upgrade some of my modules and I mistakenly installed the 4.0.5 version of the Text/HTML module over the 3.0.3 version that I was using. Unfortunately, I forgot that I was running DNN 4.4.1 so after the installation all that appeared in the text containers were error codes. (totally hosed)

First I tried upgrading the 4.4.1 version to 4.0.53 but was not successful doing that. (some more detailed upgrade instructions would be nice for us non-DNN experts)

Then I tried uninstalling the 4.0.5 Text/HTML module and re-installing the 3.0.3 version which still produced error codes. At that point I decided to restore a nightly backup from last night (6/13/07) which did not solve the problem as now all of the Text/HTML containers were gone.

I then reinstalled the 3.0.3 version again and the site works with the exception of not having any content in the Text/HTML containers. This is a problem as they constitute 80% of the website's content!

Before trying to restore a backup from two days ago (which I would lose a full day's work I did yesterday) I thought it might be best to post this issue to see what if anything can be done to recover the content.

I would greatly appreciate any help and if any of you gurus out there would be willing to do a web conference to help me get it back together I will be happy to pay a reasonable fee for the service. I am on East Coast US time so someone in the US is preferred. Thanks.

Frank

Hi Frank,

If I am reading this correctly, and if you restore the DB to a place where you had the content, then you should only need to get the Html Module back to working.

The upgrade on the Html module that caused the original problem puts the module in the App_Code folder.  You should delete that folder, and then go into the web.config file and delete the Code Subdirectory entries for the Html module:

 <codeSubDirectories>
        <add directoryName="HTML" />  <-- Remove this
      </codeSubDirectories>

After you have removed the newer one, you can re-install the older one and everything should be back to normal.
