Hey all, you wont believe it but fixing it in my case was a simple matter of re-creating the global.asax file. I found the suggesiton on this post: http://geekswithblogs.net/ranganh/archive/2005/04/25/37610.aspx originally. Didnt c how it could work, so i tried everything else first: recompiling the source, permissions in IIS, mixing dll versions, thoughts of suicide, etc. and then i gave in...

give it a shot, u just copy the contents of the global.asax file, delete the file and create a new text file. paste the code in there and save it as global.asax.

Regarding initial thread on this post, I am receiving same error.  I installed in D:\Inetpub\wwwroot\mydirname\ and setup an Internet Guest Account with full priv's on the entire directory.  In IIS, I created a virtual directory to point to this location (setup as an application) and created a unique application pool associated with the directory.  ASP.Net 2.0 is correctly associated with this site via the IIS .Net tab in site settings.  DB connection string is OK as well (I am using SQL 2000 as the DB and commented out the Express DB connection strings in both places in the web.config file).  This has had me scratching my head for a while so any info would be greatly appreciated.  Tried installing the latest version associated with .Net 1.1 but the clean install was not smooth either and thought it might be best to just try continuing efforts to install the latest version (using 4.3.5)

I received this same error after installing a new dnn installation, typing in the domain, crossing fingers to see things install and . What I tried was: copied SiteUrls.config into the root directory of the install; looked at my dir structure compared to a working site.

I think that in dinking around with fileZilla I inadvertantly dragged the App_Code file into the App_Data file before uploading the installation. duh. When I uploaded App_Code to the installation as well as the SiteUrl.config file ... SUCCESS!

Thanks,

Hi,

I'm having same error but on the hosting server. My installation on my local development machine finishes successfully, than I customized the site, fill with data and now I want to put the site on the hosting server. I created virtual directory under my hosting root, create database with data and upload site into the virtual directory. I get error - Could not load type 'DotNetNuke.Common.Global'. in global.asax

I rebuild whole solution in release mode, upload bin once again, tried everything - but my site is still not working on the hosting server. I tried another hosting - same error. So I figured out that the hosting server is not a problem. I'm still wondering why site is working perfectly on the local machine, and not working on the hosting server?

Any suggestions? Please for help?
