The first problem seems to be that you are using net framework 1.1 and not 2.0.

For DNN 4.X the NET Framework 2.0 is required!

Another issue is that the changes you made to the connection strings are for the strings that are actually "commented out".  Look closely at the connection strings and you will notice that the second string is wrapped by <!--- and -->.  while the first string has the end of comment tag --> before the element starts.

You can see this if you open in any xml editor, including VS2005 and Visual Web Developer (VWD)

I have made the changes but the message I get now is:

Server Application Unavailable

The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is currently unavailable.  Please hit the "Refresh" button in your web browser to retry your request.

Administrator Note: An error message detailing the cause of this specific request failure can be found in the application event log of the web server. Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur.

This error usually occurs when you have both ASP.NET 1.1 and 2.0 installed and you have your web application in IIS set to 1.1 rather than 2.0. To fix the problem:

* In IIS, right click on your dotnetnuke folder.

* Select properties

* Click on the ASP.NET tab

* Change the ASP.NET version to 2.0.50727

Hope this helps,
Grant
