If some users can't see the content of the modules then it may just be that the user is in design mode.

Thanks!  That was the answer to some of the problems.  I have a couple of modules that are still having problems, but I'll work those out seperately...

On a semi-side note, I had heard reference to the "design mode" before, but couldn't find it in the menus.  If you hadn't posted the picture, it would have been a long time before I found that option!  What the heck is that option for anyways? (besides to drive us nuts...)

Sorry about that -

I'm having some other more fundamentally frustrating issues with the register / login not working on a 4.5.3 build - I'm going to post the three sites that show the error able to replicated.

These type of issues really do make me wary about upgrading.. since now I'm spending time in 'reactive' mode trying to work out why on two sites they work correctly but the last one we released, it's a 4.5.3 build, not the 4.5.1 build and the clients are asking me, on this high volume site, why people can't register.. *sigh*

Understood, I have one 4.5.3 site that won't show the registration page now...  You run a gamble when upgrading, some things work better, some things get broke...

I think it's for removing the content from modules so that a designer can see wht their design looks like without content, but that seems kind of backwards to me.

I have more thoughts on it here:

I have the same issue with all DNN 4.5.3 instances that use alternate registration pages.  DNN goofs up the URL it generates on postback when the register link is clicked either in the skin object, or the register button on the login module.

Right after I upgraded to 4.5.3 I started getting complaints about not being able to register across all portals with alternate registration pages.

It adds a "/ctl/returnurl/" path segment (friendly URLs on) or a &ctl=returnurl= parameter (Friendly URLs Off) which apparently causes it to generate a register page with no modules on it.  Interestingly enough, the breadcrumb link on this page will correctly link to the registration page.

I'm working around it by simply not using the built-in register skin object or the login module.  I wrote a replacement.
