I have this recurring problem that I hope someone can assist with...

I've had it happen to about four accounts now (maybe more that haven't reported a problem), the last few times I was only able to fix it by deleting the account and re-creating it with the exact same permissions...  Now it is starting to affect the host account.

The website looks like it should, but as soon as an affected user logs in, some modules disappear entirely from view.  Logging out, or logging in as a different user shows that the module is still there and has the proper permissions.  Switching to "edit" view, the missing modules show up, but ALL modules then become only a title bar, no content is displayed whatsoever.  The action menu shows up, but if there is an additional action menu item on a module (like the Edit Text of the Text/HTML module), that item is omitted from the menu.  This problem seems to follow the users, as I've tried them on several different computers, different ISPs, etc...

Does anyone have ANY idea what could be causing this?  Last time I had the hosting service go through all sorts of tests, and nothing cleared it up.  I upgraded from 4.5.1, to 4.5.2 and then to 4.5.3, but nothing helped.  The ONLY way I was able to clear it was to delete/recreate each user.

We too had this problem sometime ago and as mentioned the only solution was to delete and re-create the affected users.  Nothing we did solve the issue.

This is certainly not a caching problem as we had restarted the server on several occasions.  I guess internally someting must have changed in the user profile to prevent the users from seeing content of the module.

Can I suggest you check something that caught me out in the same way -

I know in one build the boxes for edit / view were swapped around - not sure if it was by accident but for experienced dnn users, it would be more of a problem becuase we're so used to clicking the boxes without checking.

The view / edit boxes were/are transversed in one build.. which meant what you normally clicked as view is in fact edit, on the pages settings I'm pretty sure it was.. so it was edit then view

But, on the module, it's the other way around - eg.. normal - view then edit.  And by default view is on module, so what you're actually doing is giving edit views to a module that has view only.

I didn't pick this up until I talked to John Mitchell about it - asking if it was a bug, and he then enlightened me to the fact the edit and view had been transversed and it was screwing around with the fact you couldn't see things that you were supposed to.

So by going into the page, re checking the edit and view were swapped over, it went away.

This might not be the case, but for me, you're describing this 'de ja vu' situation that I lived through a couple of weeks ago.

Oh how I wish it was that easy!  *grin*  I've tried all sorts of combinations with permissions and couldn't get it working.  The View/Edit seem to be in the right place, and switching them around doesn't seem to help...

Sorry about that -

I'm having some other more fundamentally frustrating issues with the register / login not working on a 4.5.3 build - I'm going to post the three sites that show the error able to replicated.

These type of issues really do make me wary about upgrading.. since now I'm spending time in 'reactive' mode trying to work out why on two sites they work correctly but the last one we released, it's a 4.5.3 build, not the 4.5.1 build and the clients are asking me, on this high volume site, why people can't register.. *sigh*
