...portals that is.

I want to upgrade my version of dotnetnuke and I have a few questions. This is one of the first.

Can anyone tell me what effect a fresh installation of dotnetnuke would have on child portals? I have a few on the website I am working on and I wanted to know if I should prepare myself to redo them all from scratch or if there is a way to back them up and reload the information when the installation is complete.

Thanks in advance,
Omoi

You might want to look into creating a portal template from your current portals.  This way if you were to install a fresh version of DNN (with all of the same modules installed) you could import the template and away you go....

here is a link for further reading

hope that helps,

Ian

Thank you so much for your help, Ian, but I ran into a snag. I logged into the site and realized that the menu wasn't there and I needed to check with my hosting. My hosting is with GoDaddy, so all of the information I would need is there and they limit access to that severely. Would anyone suggest a way (or two or three) to backup an installation of dotnetnuke provided by GoDaddy or link me to another topic here on the matter?

I'm glad to report I found something that could work pretty well for me here at www.snowcovered.com. It will take a bit of configuring I think, but I should make it through okay. Reading through the documentation, however, I do have a question.

The instructions in the pdf documentation heresay that I should create a folder with the "Directory Management Tool". Where is this thing?
